Call To Order---Kevin Lundy, Chairman

 

Pledge Of Allegiance---Whitney Almond, KHS Jr. Class President 

 

Roll Call Of Members---Eight members in attendance, one excused.  As listed.

 

Minutes---Executive minutes for 5/19/2009 were tabled.

 

***Motion by Brett to have Paula Larsen act as secretary pro tem.  2nd by Kent.  Vote called for.  4 yes 1 no.  Motion passed.

 

Citizen Input---None   

 

Public Reports---Mayors Office---Megan Hillyard thanked council for help with the Neighbor to Neighbor.  UDOT checking into possible repairs of vinyl fencing along 5400 South.  Randy Parks is looking into where they can get the funding for repairs.  Westside Representative—Greg Schulz reported nothing new on Lodestone Park issue.  Reminded that with all the “cool things” we want done, it does take time.  Reported on the mayor’s quarterly meeting with chairs of community council possible changes. Rough draft of letter, attached.  Greg also reported that Mausi (community member) has decided to do a different project with his scouts rather than the tree project with the council.  Rocky Mountain Power is ready to move forward with the tree project.  Sheriff---Deputy Mike Lee gave report from the OG’S.  These officers are specialized in gang intelligence.  Nancy White---Reported that the graffiti ordinance she has been working on will go before the county council on June 9th.  Asked KCC members to be there for input. 

 

Committee Reports--- Community Involvement---Paula gave a brief report on Hometown Night.  50’s theme, council & county Mayor Corroon will do lip sink, hula hoop contest, etc…  Paula presented KCC award to Les Dejong for all his hard work on the Kearns Pony League baseball field.  Treasurer Report---Brett stated that Megan had brought the council funding from the county.  Administrative funding-$16,548.00 and Special Projects funding-$27,829.00.  Financial Oversite Committee meeting will be June 4, 2009 at 6:00 PM. 

 

 

 

Unfinished Business---Door Church Special Request Funds---Mary Villenuew stated carnival is free, renting games from Diamond Rental (presented invoice), and the Kearns Pony League Baseball has offered their field for the carnival.  Date 7/18/2009 from 3 PM-7 PM.  Mary stated everyone is welcome to attend.  The Door Church will have a booth there for proselyting.  ***Motion by Marlon to pay $922.00 directly to Diamond Rental on the condition that the Door Church provides matching funds in the same amount (none listed on request form).  2nd by Kent.  Discussion:  Concerns from council was that this may be something we can’t give special funds to because of a church affiliation and proselyting going on.  Megan from Salt Lake County stated we probably could not fund, but would check with DA office.  ***Amendment to motion by Marlon that if the DA office states we can’t fund then motion will become null and void.  2nd by Kent.  Vote called for on amendment.  3 yes, 4 no.  Amendment does not pass.  Vote called for on original motion.  3 yes, 4 no.  Original motion does not pass.  Kevin stated he would still like clarification from DA office on this issue.  Megan will follow up on.  Kearns Pony League Baseball Special Funds Request---Pony league board available.  Paula Redmond said that the pony league owes approx. $3650.00 to United Fence and approx. $2200.00 to Chanshire Farms Sod.  United Fence has originally said they would donate the labor and fencing and now just the fencing.  Paula reported they did make $1000.00 from their carnival they just had.  ***Motion by Charles to pay $1000.00 directly to United Fence now and re-visit this issue at the end of the year if the council still has funds available.  2nd Marlon.  Vote called for.  7 yes, 0 no.  Motion passed.  KJHS Recycle Dumpster---Mr. Pezner, teacher in charge of program from KJHS available and stated he has tried several other places to get funding to keep the dumpster going.  Has been a very successful program with containers in classrooms they recycle 50-60% .  The dumpster is taken away when not in use by the school.  Greg Schulz stated he would look into with the school district for possible help.  Council will address at next meeting.  St. Francis Church---Kevin stated he has received calls from public regarding parking issue.  He will forward those concerns onto Kearns Planning & Zoning.  ChamberWest Magazine---Tabled.  UTA Para Transport---Paula and Kent will review draft letter from county regarding this and prepare KCC rough draft letter.  Said letter will be emailed to members for input.  Float---No contact. 

 

New Business---Community Mobilization Partnership (CMP)---Charles said the next meeting of the CMP will be 6-4-09 at 7:00 PM.  He stated that Rosa Salamanca from the Justice Dept. out of Colorado will be attending to discuss training.  Invited KCC members to attend also.
