Skatepark/ZAP Sub-Committee

Skateboarding (169K) As many of you know, over the past year the Oquirrh Park upgrades and the new addition of a skate park have been on the minds of many residents. I would like to give you an update of where we are at this point in the process. To give some background information concerning this project it was awarded to Kearns back in 2006 as part of the Zoo, Arts, and Parks (ZAP) funding. After public meetings, the planning committee designed a doable master plan that will give many new features to the Oquirrh Park. Some of these features include walking/biking trails, group areas, and many multi-purpose sporting fi elds. The master plan has been submitted to the Kearns Township Planning and Zoning Commission. The Commission has approved the first phase of the improvement to the Oquirrh Park. These improvements in the first phase will include: a skate park, temporary parking on the Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center (KOPFC) property, walking trail to the skate park, development of a road into the park, parking lot and a multi-use sporting fi eld west of the existing baseball diamonds. This has been a long process but the beginning of a new and unique local venue. These upgrades will complement the already utilized facilities in the park, Oval and the KOPFC.
